SHIVA Charity : ウィキペディア英語版 | SHIVA Charity
SHIVA Charity was established in 1995 in order to promote education in Nepal and Sri Lanka. It rebuilt 28 tsunami destroyed nursery schools in Sri Lanka, and is helping about the same number of infant/junior/secondary schools in Nepal. Apart from rebuilding, SHIVA Charity is involved in helping the general monthly finances of maintaining and running schools, teachers' pay and equipment. However its biggest concern is to provide Resources training for teachers so that they have the ability to teach in a more creative, and child- centred way, giving children the opportunity to develop self confidence, and to enjoy the experience of education, rather than the "chalk and talk" formal way of instruction. SHIVA Charity has developed lessons and resources to distribute to its schools in Nepal and Sri Lanka, and it hopes in the next few years to extend its activities to other countries. The founder of the charity, Bob Uppington, is an experienced teacher who has been in charge of curriculum development in UK schools, and now is using his expertise to develop an appropriate creative curriculum for schools in Asia. The SHIVA Charity web site, www.shivacharity.com, has photos and video of this work in progress. Each video is of a different school in a real teaching situation, where a class is learning a creative activity. The web site is also a mine of information about practical lessons in English, Maths, and Craft. Bob is also a very good singer and performed in numerous student school plays whilst teaching at Hartcliffe Comprehensive School in the 1980s.
